Well, we are off tomorrow. Five of us flying from Teesside Airport to Nairobi via Amsterdam. We've had our vaccinations, started taking the malaria tablets and some of the others may even have started packing!
Helen, Josie, Noelle, Olwyn and I are going to visit our partners in the Miathene Synod in North East Kenya. We have had welcome messages from Bishop John Ataya and we will be met at the airport by Jane (who visited us in Darlington last Autumn) and by Naftaly. We are taking a variety of gifts with us including bookmarks from the Darlington District and a chalice and paten decorated with the St Cuthbert Cross as a gift to the Bishop.I am hoping to take a photograph of that before we leave and in due course it will be added to this blog. We will have some bookmarks for sale at the Synod in September.
We will be visiting schools in Kianjai, Mituntu, Kanjalu and Kigucwa. We will visit many, if not all of the circuits and will be going to the Mbaranga dispensary where the foundation stone was laid by those who travelled from the District to Kenya two years ago. There are many other things planned and we will have a lot to share when we return. On August 4th the Kenyan people are voting in a national referendum on their constitution, significant national events are taking place during our visit.
So, goodbye until we fly into Teesside on August 9th. Enjoy the summer and please remember us in your prayers.
God bless,
Ruth.
These are the words of the prayer I have written which is on the bookmarks we are taking with us:
Praise God!
On the slopes of Mount Kenya
On the English hills
Praise God!
In the gleam of snow
In the radiance of sun
Praise God!
For the friendship that binds us
For the Word that inspires us
For the Spirit who leads us
Praise God!
