Is your iceberg melting?

I've recently been reading"Our Iceberg is melting" by John Kotter. It's a story of a group of penguins facing change as their iceberg melts. It's a brilliant story that has so many similarities to the situations facing many of our churches in the District. We meet Alice, one of the bosses in the Leadership team, Fred, an enthusiastic youngster, the Professor- the statistician as they struggle to move the colony of penguins to a new iceberg where life will have new opportunities for them all.

If you can, get hold of a copy.

It seems to me that life is about change, we don't stay as babies, we adapt to circumstances around us the whole of our lives. Sometimes it's difficult but we always come to new understandings and ways of living.
How do you cope with change? Does it make you feel scared and out of control or do you relish it? Is there anything you can do to help someone else through whatever change they are going through in their lives?

Is your iceberg melting?

Haven't read the book but it seems to me that we should learn quite a lot from nature. When I watch a flock of waders on the waters edge, or a herd of elephants searching for water or shoals of fish in the ocean the one thing they don't seem to be doing is arguing the toss about what to do or where to go.

They instinctively and instantly move together in what appears to be a seamless mass without there being an obvious leader. One (presumably) of them knows what to do and when to do it and the others accept their instinctive leadership.

I guess the penguins would be quite upset to know that they have been portrayed as humans - they're so much better than that!
