Great 50 days

The newly published Great 50 Days books have arrived in Circuits across the region, where churches have been distributing them in readiness for Easter Day when the daily reflections commence. Look out for the familiar cover printed in orange for 2018. If you are running out of copies please let me know, we now have some extra copies and I can post these to you if you let me know where you would like them to be sent. Furthermore, I now have a version which prints in A4. If you have anyone who needs a larger print copy please let me know and I can send you this version for printing locally.

This year the theme of the readings, reflections, prayers and stories is A Life of Mission. There are 50 daily reflections and each week there is a personal story and space to pause for prayer. The reflections come from people in every circuit across the Darlington and Newcastle-upon-Tyne Districts and this year the Vice-President and President of Conference have also contributed to the resources.

For those who like to pick up the daily reflections on the move, or have given away their book, there are options to join in via Facebook (search for The Great 50 Days) and to receive the daily reflections by email by registering here or by copying eepurl.com/dfclLf into your browser. Please encourage people in your circuit to pass this link to friends and family so they can join in too.

This year the books contain a weekly prayer page which encourages us to pause and take time to be still with God. This can be time alone or with others, and may be a time of real blessing in busy lives.

Each Sunday the passage chosen for A Life of Mission is taken from the lectionary passages that day. (Sometimes a Sunday lectionary reading is also used on the Saturday.) This should make it easier for preachers to make links from Sunday worship to the week of reflections. Some preaching notes are also being sent to preachers to accompany the Sunday readings.

Finally the resources for small groups will be published on a new website www.thegreat50days.org.uk here you will find a variety of suggestions for use with your groups. There are media links, questions to use with the weekly testimony stories and other resources as well. The core resource is attached and can be printed, but more ideas are being included on the website. If the website does not come up when you go to the link, please click refresh P. Please help us to make these resources known to those who lead small groups.

We hope that you and those in your circuit will find great blessing as you journey through the Great 50 Days and as you learn together. If you have any feedback on the resources, or suggestions for the future, please email thegreat50days.com or get in touch with me.

Grace and peace in this wonderful Easter season,

Tricia
