Highlights from synod

Synod was hosted by members of the Stokesley Methodist Circuit and was held at Stokesley Methodist Church.

Anne Offler, Synod Secretary, welcomed Revd Richard Andrew, who was chairing his first synod meeting as Darlington District Chair. We also welcomed other ministers newly arrived in the District.

Brian Park gave his last report as District Treasurer and was thanked for his work and the expertise he brought to this role. We welcomed John Monkhouse, who is taking on this role. John held the role of District Treasurer a number of year ago but commented that the role has changed a bit since then!

We watch highlights from Conference and heard our District reps share their challenges and highlights. One of the highlights was the report from 3Generate. At synod there was a box to collect letters sharing faith stories and offering encouragement. These will be sent with others from around the country to young people attending this year's 3Gen meeting in November. Anne highly recommended and encouraged anyone thinking about it to volunteer to help at 3Generate.

Andrew Orton, Durham University, presented his findings on church growth.

In the afternoon, we shared news of exciting projects across the district as we considered how we could live out Our Calling.

Ruth Harvey, Place for hope, led us in a session on having difficult conversations as we prepare for the time of consultation within the Methodist Church on Marriage and Relationships.

Rev Sue Greenwood invited us to Spring Synod on Saturday 27 April in the MIddlesbrough and Eston Circuit.
