Every year the District pilgrimage group organises a pilgrimage on a Holy Saturday. It is organised for the purpose of commemorating the last day of Christ's death. The journey begins from the Chester-le-Street Methodist church and ends at Durham Cathedral. There are several stops along the way where specific prayers are being said but the most significant is a lunch stop at Finchale Priory for Holy Communion Service. Everyone is encouraged to take part in this service and some public do join in. The difficulty of this 7 mile trek enables participants to prepare themselves for Easter Sunday when celebrations take place in every church in the District because Christ has risen!
